The Apple King is an enchanting business fable that offers an anecdotal explanation and solution for avoiding oppressive corporate culture.
Between 1970 and 1997, more than 40 people lost their lives at the hands of then-current or former employees of the United States Postal Service. There were at least 20 incidents of workplace rage at USPS facilities, each targeting managers, fellow workers, and police officers.
Most recently, Luigi Mangione took matters into his own hands in a cowardly attack against Brian Thompson, CEO of United Healthcare. In a major shift in public perception, many hold Mangione up to be a hero of the people. While most would not take to such drastic measures, many sympathize with the reasons Mangione did what he did.
Regardless of whether these people all had valid grievances or not, the continued actions of citizens and employees acting out against corporations is a problem in our society that must be addressed at all costs.
